    Field Notes For November 1, 2021


    Coming in Hot: Lucas Herbert, who is competing this week, picked up his first PGA TOUR victory in his 20th start yesterday in Bermuda. The PGA TOUR rookie entered the final round trailing by four strokes. The Australian becomes the fourth international winner on the PGA TOUR in as many weeks. World No. 22 Patrick Reed, also here at Mayakoba, finished T2 to record his seventh career runner-up on TOUR.

    Monday Qualifier: The final four spots for the 132-player field were filled today via the Monday Qualifier at Iberostar. David Lipsky, Andrew Novak and Braden Thornberry, all from the United States, are now in the field. Colombia’s Camilo Aguado also qualified.

    Latin American Players in the Field: There are currently 11 Latin American players coming to next week’s World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. Here is a breakdown per-country: Mexico (5)—Abraham Ancer, Juan Carlos Benitez, Roberto Diaz, Juan Diego Fernandez, Carlos Ortiz. Argentina (1)— Emiliano Grillo. Chile (2)—Joaquin Niemann, Mito Pereira. Colombia (2)—Camilo Villegas, Camilo Aguado. Venezuela (1)—Jhonattan Vegas.

    World Rankings: Currently nine of the top 25 and 20 of the top 50 are committed, making this the strongest field in tournament history. Those players among the top 25: #7 Justin Thomas, #11 Tony Finau, #13 Brooks Koepka, #14 Abraham Ancer, #17 Viktor Hovland, #18 Tyrrell Hatton, #20 Billy Horschel, #22 Patrick Reed, #23 Scottie Scheffler.

    Olympians: There are 19 players in the field who competed at this summer’s Olympic games. Two of the three medals won are here at Mayakoba this week. Rory Sabbatini (Slovakia) won silver and C.T. Pan (Chinese Taipei) took home the bronze.

    International Players: Led by defending champion Viktor Hovland, from Norway, there are 51 international players in the field, representing 24 different countries. With his victory, Hovland became the second international champion of the event, joining Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell.

    Collection of Champions: There are currently 34 players in the field who have won in the past two years on the PGA TOUR and the field—as a whole--has accumulated 266 career victories. Justin Thomas (14), Zach Johnson (12) and Sergio Garcia (11) lead the 132-player field in total victories.

    Major Champions: Fifteen major championship winners will compete this week and include multiple major champions Brooks Koepka (2 PGA/2 U.S. Open) and Zach Johnson (Masters/The Open). Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Danny Willett (Masters); Keegan Bradley, Justin Thomas, Jimmy Walker (PGA); Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose, Gary Woodland (U.S. Open); Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Henrik Stenson (The Open).

    FedExCup: Seventeen of the top 30 players on the current FedExCup standings are in the field as of this weekend. Six past FedExCup champions are competing—2011 Bill Haas, 2012 Brandt Snedeker, 2013 Henrik Stenson, 2014 Billy Horschel, 2017 Justin Thomas and 2018 Justin Rose.
